jrvolunteer.org was specifically founded to provide local teens with volunteer opportunities in their community.
As a high school student, I was looking for opportunities to get involved in my community through volunteering. However, most websites that list organizations with volunteer needs were not age specific and in fact, had requirements for volunteers to be at least 18. There seemed to be a road block for teens, myself included, to easily find ways to volunteer.
Rather than being discouraged, I choose to create a way for local teens to easily find volunteer opportunities. After an extensive search for opportunities for those under the age of 18, categories were created to present volunteer options. This website was designed to be clear and easy to use, allowing teens to find a way to volunteer in their areas of interest. As a result of this, more teens will get involved in their community, benefitting everyone.
