Wake County Big Sweep

Wake County

Wake County Big Sweep is a volunteer effort to make our environment litter-free. Wake County focuses on watersheds, coordinating cleanups of streams, lakes and wetlands.  Events are planned throughout spring and fall each year in partnership with city and county parks, civic organizations, youth groups, schools, churches, and businesses. Wake County Big Sweep celebrated its 30th Anniversary in Fall 2019.

Middle school and high school volunteers are generally welcome at Wake County Big Sweep cleanups, with an accompanying adult. Read site descriptions for age requirements.  Every volunteer must sign a liability waiver to participate and a parent or guardian must sign for each child under 18 before volunteering in Wake County Big Sweep.

Gardens need people to bring them to life, and people to nourish and pass them into future hands. Duke Gardens volunteers are that promise to the future. We cannot overstate the essential contribution volunteers make to the growth, purpose and beauty of the Gardens. Student volunteer opportunities are available at Duke Gardens’ Terrace gift shop and at their summer camps. Students must be 16 or older to volunteer.
