Volunteers make a difference! We rely on the hard work, love and commitment of our volunteers in all of our programs. Teens age 16 and older can volunteer with no special supervision. Teens age 13 to 15 must attend orientation and training with an adult over 18. This adult must also volunteer with them.
Paw Prints Animal Rescue

Paw Prints Animal Rescue (PPAR) is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the population of homeless cats, kittens, dogs and puppies by maintaining two programs -- a Rescue and Adoption Program and a Feral Cat Management Program. We welcome volunteers (age 14+) to assist with animal care in foster homes or in adoptions of animals at local retail stores operated by PetSmart, Inc. Year-round opportunities.
SAFE Haven for Cats

The mission of SAFE Haven for Cats is to use no-kill principles and education to save cats’ lives through rescue, adoption, spays / neuter services and community programs. There are many ways in which you can make a difference in the lives of animals in our shelter and in our community. You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer in the shelter without a parent or guardian. Youth volunteers can be 13-15 to volunteer at the shelter as long as a parent volunteers with them. The minimum age for other volunteer activities depends on the activity.

We at Second Chance simply couldn’t do what we do without the dedicated support of our incredible team of volunteers. From cleaning cat rooms and washing dogs to fostering special needs animals, our volunteers embody the heart and soul of the Second Chance mission. Sound like fun? We’d love to hear from you. Second Chance invites everyone 16 years or older (12-15 year-olds are welcome if accompanied by a parent or guardian) to become a volunteer. A signed waiver by parent or guardian is required for all volunteers under 18.
Wake County Animal Center
Raleigh
As an open-admission animal shelter operated by Wake County, we receive all stray, abandoned & surrendered pets in the county. We partner with fosters, volunteers and local rescues to treat and rehome thousands of homeless animals every year. The minimum age to volunteer at the Wake County Animal Center is 16 years old. If you are 16 or 17 years old, you must have a parent or legal guardian complete an application and volunteer with you.
